Every year Indians face hot summers as the country is very close to the equator. Some places in India are hot even during the winters. Keeping that in mind, keeping an air conditioner at home has become a necessity. Choosing the correct air conditioner is essential as these are products that work for a long duration. So, if you buy an AC that you no longer prefer, you are going to be stuck with it unless you decide to splash the cash in a new AC of course. In this article, I am going to be reviewing Lloyd ACs, giving you an overall idea of how good or bad the air conditioners of this brand are.
Before I review Lloyd’s air conditioners, let me tell you a little about the brand. Lloyd began its Indian journey as a joint venture under the Fedders Lloyd in 1956, later, in 2007, they became a solo brand when Fedders went bankrupt in the United States Of America. In 2017, Lloyd got acquired by Havells India and currently sells air conditioners, Televisions, Washing machines and chest freezers to the Indian consumer. Lloyd has more than 3 million customers and aims to be the preferred brand for more customers in India. They also intend to pursue every aspect of their business keeping in mind their slogan “Khushiyon Ki Guarantee” or “Happyness Guaranteed”.
Features Of Lloyd Split ACs
In the below list, you will find all the features available in Lloyd air conditioners. Keep in mind that some of these features may not be available depending on the model and cost of the air conditioner.
1. Wireless AC Control
One of the most significant selling points of the Lloyd air conditioner is its wireless AC control. You can use your smartphone that pretty much everyone has nowadays to control the air conditioner. All you would have to do is to download the Lloyd AC App. Once that is done, you can control the AC using only your fingertips. This feature allows the user to be lazy without having to worry about the electricity being used.
You can switch off the Lloyd air conditioner installed in one part of your house even if you’re sitting on the opposite side of your home. The app not only behaves as a power button; but you can also use it to adjust the swing, temperature, mode and all the other things you can do using the remote. Therefore, the best part of wireless AC control is that you do need the AC remote to control the Split AC, you do not need to find the AC remote whenever it goes missing, you also don’t have to whack the remote to make it work when it is giving problems, you can use the Lloyd AC app.
2. 10 step Inverter Control
All new models released by Lloyd come with a 10 step inverter control, inverters used inside most ACs serve the purpose of controlling the speed in which the Inverter AC runs. So what is the 10 step Inverter? The step inverter has 10 different frequencies at which the compressor of the Inverter AC can run at.
The inverter technologies used in the air conditioner are thought to be of something similar to the car accelerator. The compressor provides more power when the AC requires it by running at higher frequencies, and the compressor runs at lower power when the AC needs less power to run. So how is this technology helpful? Since the compressor only provides power that is required by the machine depending on the temperature and speed settings, it saves energy that usually would have been wasted in regular ACs. This, therefore, also helps you save money as it uses less electricity.

3. Twin Rotary Compressor
To avoid ourselves from waking up in the night soaked in our sweat, we buy air conditioners. These ACs are meant to provide us with peaceful and undisturbed sleep, but what do you do when the compressor of the AC is making a noise loud enough to disturb you from sleeping or waking you up while you are sleeping? To combat this problem, Lloyd has come with the twin rotary compressor that allows the user to sleep peacefully without getting disturbed by the sound of the compressor.
The twin rotary compressor does not only reduce the noise made by the compressor, but it also reduces the power consumption, which means you are also saving up on your electricity bill. The low noise fan blade, genius air duct design and noise isolating material used maintain a cool environment in your room. An additional feature in some of the models is the mute mode which further reduces the sound of the AC to around 20db, which is very, very soft.
4. Copper Condenser
ACs come with two types of condensers, Aluminum and Copper. While Aluminium condensers are cheaper, Copper condensers are better for the following reasons:
- Copper condensers are more durable than Aluminium condensers as Copper is strong enough to withstand higher atmospheric pressure. This, therefore, reduces the maintenance cost of the condenser and saves you from the trouble of calling the service center after every couple of months.
- Copper allows the refrigerant to flow faster and smoother compared to Aluminium. And Copper is also a better conductor of heat than Aluminium.
So, although Aluminium Condensers are initially cheaper, Copper condensers more than makeup for their extra cost with their durability. If you don’t mind spending some more, we recommend Daikin AC as it has the best cooper condenser.
5. 4 Way Swing
I have known times when I have just returned home, switched on the Air Conditioner and have had to wait for a considerable amount of time to make my body feel cool. Lloyds rapid cooling technology allows the room to cool in just 2 minutes according to the brand, which I think is a little bit exaggerated. However, it does cool quite quickly thanks to the 4-way cooling blade technology that allows the blade of the AC to swing up, down, left and right. This is very different from the regular ACs that we are used to in which the blades of the AC only swing upwards and downwards. The 4-way swing and rapid cooling technology are available in all models and not only the premium models.
6. BLDC Motor And EEV
Regular models come with a conventional induction motor, while premium Lloyd ACs come with a BLDC motor or a “Brushless DC Motor”. How Are The Two Motors Different? The most significant difference between the two motors is that the Brushless DC Motor has permanent magnets while the conventional motor has electromagnets. BLDC motors have become known for their reliability, efficiency and low noise emissions. This motor is very useful to people who face frequent power cuts as some areas in India do face a lot of power loss. This motor is helpful to people facing power cuts because you can connect this motor to a home inverter.
Premium Lloyd ACs don’t only have the Brushed DC Motor; they also have the “Electronic Expansion Valve” or “EEV”. The EEV controls the flow of the refrigerant, providing the user of the AC with better and efficient cooling. These ACs can run in temperatures reaching as high as 60o C.
7. PM 2.5 Filter
Air pollution has been rising continuously in developing countries such as India. According to the World Health Organisation or WHO. the air pollution caused by our hunt for faster development could be the reason for the rise in respiratory disorders. WHO estimates that around 7 million people die every year from exposure to fine particles in polluted air that penetrate deep into the lungs and cardiovascular system
This, therefore, makes it very important for air conditioners to have good air filters so that the users don’t have to face any respiratory issues. Lloyd ACs have a PM 2.5 filter that filters out very tiny microorganisms; these microorganisms can be as small as 2.5 microns in width or less.
To define the size of microorganisms, we use the unit microns, one inch is equal to 25,000 microns, and these tiny particles can cause a sense of irritation in your eyes and nose. It can also irritate your lungs and throat and therefore make you cough and sneeze. They can also cause long term effects such as a reduction in the functioning of the lung.
Premium Lloyd ACs have the PM 2.5 filter will, therefore, prevent these microorganisms from entering your body and causing you all these harmful effects.
8. Self Cleaning and Diagnose Technology
Lloyd has also come up with a self-cleaning technology that is available in premium models of the air conditioners. During the automated process, the indoor unit of the AC is operational in cooling mode at a low fan speed. The reduced fan speed allows the dust to be removed from the evaporator fins. Once that is done it switches to fan mode to blow away the wet air. This self-cleaning technology also eliminates fungi and bacteria that may have been collected in the AC.

Lloyd is one of the oldest and most trusted brands in India. While the build of their ACs might not be as good as other premium brands such as Hitachi, Daikin etc. They do sell ACs with premium features at an affordable rate. You might have read some of the features only being available in premium models, but the price of these premium models are quite affordable even for the general public.
Some features such as the WIFI remote are really beneficial as you can use the app to switch on the AC even if you are outside your house (The AC should be connected to the WIFI and power supply). If you are someone who doesn’t like to waste electricity or are particularly precise about your electricity bill, you can always switch the AC on when you reach home. Despite the AC taking more than 2 minutes to cool, it does cool considerably quickly using the rapid cooling technology.
